QPlate is the consumable measurement plate for QPatch. The QPlate comes in six types: QPlate 16 Regular or Large and QPlate 16X with 16 individually controlled measurement sites and QPlate 48 Regular or Large and QPlate 48C with 48 individually controlled measurement sites. Each measurement site contains a sophisticated liquid flow channel system that enables the fast and precise solution and compound applications necessary for high-quality (giga-ohm) patch clamp measurements.
QPlate X contains 10 patch holes while QPlate contains the standard one patch hole. QPlate Regular has a waste reservoir of 70 μl, whereas QPlate Large and QPlate X has a 250 μl waste reservoir.
The integrated flow channel system in the QPlate ensures that test compounds can be washed off and that new compounds may be rapidly supplied to the cell. The liquid flow in the extracellular channel is laminar and driven by a passive capillary pump. This design makes it possible to exchange the liquid around the cell almost instantaneously, enabling the use of QPatch for ligand-gated ion channel measurements as well as voltage-gated. Only small volumes of test compounds are necessary (2-5 μl).
