The QPatch 16 was introduced with the aim of applying automated patch clamp to the drug discovery process, thus retaining the same high quality afforded by conventional patch clamping, and thereby enabling faster and better drug discovery.
- High throughput true gigaseal patch clamping
- For ligand- and voltage-gated ion channels
- High-quality recordings with 48 parallel amplifiers
- Micro-fluidic channels for rapid solution exchange
- 4 pipette liquid handling robot with intelligent experiment planning
- Unattended operation for several hours
- Automated data analysis, with highly sophisticated analysis tools
The QPatch 16 includes elevator units for stacking and feeding QPlates. The unique automated cell preparation stations keeps cells stirred in suspension until the experiment begins. Prior to application to the QPlate, cells are prepared using the on-board centrifuge. This means that the systems can not only run unattended for several hours during the day, but also can be put to work after normal working hours, thus enhancing daily throughput.
A liquid handling system with four pipettes provides solution and compound application to the 16 measurement positions of QPlate 16, the consumable measurement plate for QPatch 16. The system continuously monitors that the experimental conditions are appropriate and compound application only takes place when the correct measurement condition is established. This increases overall throughput and saves valuable compound.
While automated patch clamping has led to significantly increased data throughput, a new bottleneck of data analysis has emerged in the horizon. The new QPatch Assay Software offers elegant automated data analysis features to efficiently remove that bottleneck.
