Sophion’s product family of automated patch clamp systems based on advanced microchip technology is called QPatch: systems that Quickly deliver high-Quality data in large Quantities. The QPatch 16, our 16-channel system, has been shipping since September 2004. The QPatch HT, with 48 channels, was introduced in September 2006 and will be shipping from October 2006.

Both systems have been designed to work with voltage-gated as well as ligand-gated ion channels and to deliver high-quality data comparable to that of traditional patch clamping.

With their potential to screen thousands of diverse compounds per day, these systems will finally give ion channel-based drugs the boost they deserve. Pharmaceutical companies will be able to incorporate high-content analysis early in the drug development timeline – thus shortening pre-clinical R&D time significantly and ensuring that promising compounds are reliably identified before precious resources are wasted.

The higher throughput performance associated with Sophion’s QPatch system will eliminate the bottleneck traditionally associated with ion channels and patch clamping. Lab technicians will be able to shoulder a large part of the testing burden, and the cost per data point will be significantly reduced compared to traditional patch clamping.

QPatch 16
