Sophion

The child has a name
   Quick
+ Quality
+ Quantity
    …………
= QPatch

Finding a good name is almost as difficult as developing the product itself.

However the calculation above helped us crack the challenge. And the name we have chosen for Sophion’s new chip-based patch clamp systems is: QPatch.

QPatch is the family of chip-based patch clamp systems that follow our first automated product, Apatchi-1. QPatch 16, Sophion’s medium throughput 16-channel system, is scheduled for beta testing by year-end 2002. QPatch 96, with 96 channels, is the name of the high throughput system scheduled for commercial launch by late 2003.

“When searching for the name, we were looking for words which could best characterize our chip-based patch clamp systems. The words we ended up with were quick, quality and quantity, all of which signal very important characteristics in relation to the system’s data point generation. From there, it wasn’t a very big leap to the name QPatch,” said Frank Henrichsen, Vice President of Sophion Bioscience.

Sophion’s QPatch systems have the potential to screen thousands of diverse compounds per day. This type of equipment is expected to revolutionize ion channel-based drug discovery. High throughput electrophysiology will make ion channels much more accessible as drug targets and furthermore the systems will make it possible to generate higher quality leads within much shorter time.
