Qpatch HT - Enabling new screening paradigms in Ion Channel Drug Discovery

QPatch HT, is enabling new screening paradigms in ion channel drug discovery and safety testing because of its ability to generate thousands of high quality data points daily. Automated patch clamping with the same high quality afforded by conventional patch clamping can now be applied in all phases of ion channel drug discovery, including primary screening of focused compound libraries. This is expected to further fuel the revolution in ion channel drug discovery and safety testing.

QPatch HT has eight pipettes attached to the liquid handling demand of the 48 simultaneous patch clamp experiments. The eight intelligently moving pipettes are leading to a significantly increased throughput compared to todays automated patch clamp systems.

The QPatch HT includes elevator units for stacking and feeding QPlates and also features elevator units for compound plates. The unique automated cell preparation station keeps cells stirred in suspension until the experiment begins. Prior to application to the QPlate, cells are prepared using the on-board centrifuge. This means that the system can not only run unattended for several hours during the day, but also can be put to work after normal working hours, thus enhancing daily throughput.

While automated patch clamping has lead to significantly increased data throughput, a new bottleneck of data analysis has emerged in the horizon. The new QPatch Assay Software offers elegant automated data analysis features to efficiently remove that bottleneck.
